This Road seemed so Familiar: Or, its this Night when this Road changed Forever.

It was a night just like any other night, one in October to be exact. I had recently earned my licenses, and even more recently earned my first automobile. I was driving home, down the road that leads out of Fairmount to State Road 22, and then eventually to Marion. I'd been down this road many a time, though this was my first night driving on it alone. I find that at night things change, the trees form different shapes, and everything is just.. bigger. This night it was darker, and the size of the crop fields around me seemed endless. Shortly after the church where the sheriff's deputy posts is a small incline, nothing major, but at a certain point you can barely see the sky over it. I was at this point when he was getting ready to cross, however, our paths met.
I remember it like it just happened, like I was still in the car. Just over the hill, almost onto the straight of the road, I hit him.. or he hit me. To be crass, it was like hitting a ball of shag carpet, though much more sturdy and much faster. He stopped my car with the side of his thigh, but didn't hurt it, just stopped it. Apparently I had enough momentum to trip him, for he fell and landed in the ditch on the opposite side of the road. Not knowing what went on, but also not knowing what to do in a collision, I got out of my 1994 Saturn S-1 and ran to his side.
